I'm not sure if this will prove my point or only that I'm foolish, but...
I misquoted Ring Around the Rosy.
There are various versions of the rhyme, but most of them render the line I cited as: Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.
That said, I was taught the Husha, husha version. I can't imagine saying Ashes, ashes, just like I can't imagine linking hands with a group of adults and then tumbling myself to the ground while saying it. It just wouldn't fit with my half-understood, half-jumbled experience.
(Speaking of which, I completed a submission for The Malahat Review's Long Poem Contest from Guidelines, my manuscript of travel poetry. Fun!)
