Retrieved all the photos from my sadly neglected camera and found this picture of a small tree, which in April was in the process of making leaves even though it was blasted open, split along its length and leaning.

But you couldn't tell that it was different from any of the other small trees that lined the path unless you'd already stepped off the path...and were standing among the trees, looking out into the day.
So here's to the strange beauty of this ruined thing, to the umber heartwood that was revealed, and finally, to stepping off the path.
