rockhound

In an effort to name and number my various preoccupations - some of which leak into my overarching preoccupation, writing, some of which don't - I've recently gotten a membership with the Manitoba Naturalists Society.

A few weeks ago, I attended a lecture on flowering parasitic plants, after a winter of noticing pine cone galls on the willows in Assiniboine Forest, those days it was nice enough to walk.

Next it'll be a workshop on identifying rocks and minerals.

After that, two more workshops on ferns.

And it goes without saying that the hours alone, where I'm taken up by the flickering slides (and even the earnest questions afterwards), are almost as valuable to me as the information...

I thought naturalists just got naked and frolicked. Better double-check that brochure, Ariel.

How do you know that's not PRECISELY why I joined, dear George?
