* Vancouver novelist and visual artist Douglas Coupland will be writing the next instalment of Penguin Canada's Extraordinary Canadians series, reports trade publication Quill & Quire.

* The biography of Lynne Spears, celebrity mom of Britney and Jamie Lynn, is still in the works, according to its ghostwriter, a former Winnipegger.

* The Parmly Billings Library Board in Billings, Mont., announced the short lists for their second annual High Plains Book Awards this week. Winnipeg author Sarah Klassen, the lone Canadian on the list.

* Thirty-seven of Manitoba's award-winning children's authors are profiled in a new book by Norway House-based writer Dorene Meyer.
