mushrooms everywhere!

After many weeks away from the forest —after an overscheduled summer—M and I made our way to Assiniboine Forest.

We've had quite a sequence of sun and wet of late, so I was expecting quite a few mushrooms, but what we found was extraordinary.

Mushrooms everywhere. Everywhere! Pink ones, purple ones, enormous white ones, giant orange-capped ones. Moss everywhere and coral mushrooms growing out the moss.  There were even two kinds of mushrooms I'd never seen before, which is something, after fifteen years of mushrooming in the forest.

The batteries in my camera died...and then a sudden thunderstorm descended and we got blasted and drenched while high-stepping it back to the car, but it was a magnificent walk.

And we're going back tomorrow.
