One of the things I like about the forest is spotting wildflowers to the side of the path and in the meadow at the forest's entrance.
I'll have to retrieve my aspen parkland guidebook from the car to name/number this particular plant, but it's common at this time of year, as is bee balm and dogsbane and purple vetches.
But I always find it sort of amusing that whatsisname seems to grow best in the grassy boulevard between the edge of the forest parking lot and the bike path/bus stop.
