* USA Today reported this week on the buzz around Winnipeg writer Andrew Davidson's debut novel, The Gargoyle.

* Winnipeg writer Daria Salamon and Toronto publisher Key Porter Books have cooked up a contest in the weeks leading up to the launch of Salamon's first novel, The Prairie Bridesmaid.

* Four University of Winnipeg professors have collaborated on book that highlights mentoring strategies for at-risk youth.

* Two Ontario literary magazines have combined forces to "tweak the beak of that Canadian flightless bird, the Penguin," and its recent Book of Canadian Short Stories.
